Where the Wild Thistles Grow

As of late I’ve been struggling to find the perfect balance between embracing winter fashion and living in a place where the highs range from 60-70 degrees. I’ve thought about simplifying my wardrobe for the season and switching to a capsule wardrobe method. I’ve also given thought to lots of light layers. I know I can’t live in tanks, cardigans, and leggings everyday but have found myself if a bit of a rut. Tips anyone?

Anyhow, on this particular morning, frost had come down through the course of the night and I found myself in the land where the wild thistles grow. Adventuring to a creek that runs through my neighborhood, I caught the beauty of the sunrise over the mountains, as the light danced upon the frost and dew.

While dressing recently has been a challenge, I’m thankful for the winter layers I chose for this shoot as it was early and cold. I decided to wear this perfect boucle sweater from last season. I love the nubby texture coupled with stripes and lace detail.  It was a sale find (a treasure in itself!) and I get a bit nostalgic when I wear this guy. It reminds me of fireplaces, blankets, and a cup of hot tea. The hat is also from few seasons ago. I love the soft fedora brim and the way the black wool perfectly suits early winter mornings. It’s almost as if the brim salutes winter saying, “Thank you for this brisk morning, Northern California, and remembering it is indeed, the month of January.”
