When it comes to basics, capsule wardrobes, and fashion trends, it’s easy to steer towards black. After two years of living in Northern California, I’ve realized that my wardrobe has quickly shifted to stark neutrals and my closet has become a black hole. (I think I own 4 pairs of the same black Madewell skinny jeans and wear them almost every day of the week.) As summer is approaching, it’s time to ditch the all black outfits and add a bit of color and spice back into your wardrobe.

As a kid, I remember my mom’s silk blouse. It was the essence of femininity and the fancy piece she afforded herself in an otherwise simple wardrobe. With flowy sleeves and pearlized buttons, she only wore it for the most special of occasions. Whether it was date nights or weddings, this piece made it’s appearance when mom needed a break from being mom and wanted to express beauty unlike any other. As I aged, I learned that silk processing has come a long way from the blouse that once lived in my mom’s closet. A perfect basic for ripped skinnies, a flowy tank for date nights, or a summer dress paired with a simple sandal. Silk has stayed premium and luxurious, while more accessible to the public. Today we’re teaming up with our friends at Grana as we style our favorite silk dress for the spring.

Summer is almost upon us. This Sunday NorCal will hit triple digits. You will find me at the lake or by the pool. For most of us, we live in our swimsuits when it comes to summertime and while I used to think one pieces were the norm; however, when it comes to life in NorCal it’s hot, hot, hot. Two pieces have become a necessity to prevent heat stroke. (That’s all too real when kayaking on the lake under midday sun.) I’ve moved away from sets and have added variety to my collection by choosing different tops. It’s a great way to add a fresh piece and look without spending loads of money.
Last year I purchased these bottoms from Albion Fit and absolutely love them. With being high waisted and full coverage, there’s a lot more grace whether houseboating on the lake, hiking up waterfalls, or hoping in and out of a kayak. When it comes to swimwear, I’m a firm believer that things should stay put. Because I love these bottoms so much, I’ve paired three tops that will go with this basic.

With May in full force, we’re starting to have weather reach the triple digits. Needless to say it’s hot, really hot. This weather will last through September. I’m always on the lookout for breezy and light pieces to refresh my summer wardrobe. Over the past few years, I’ve decided to traded in fast fashion for investment pieces that are higher quality in nature. It’s a less is more approach. We can’t tell you how excited we are to find brands that are using a transparent and ethically sourced approach. These pieces are stunningly beautiful, have affordable price points, and will be the perfect addition to your summer capsule wardrobe.

The bomber jacket has returned with great force this year. Whether in worsted wools, spring silks, or leather cuts, this moto short cropped style is universally flattering. It brings a slim straight cut and modern tailoring, acting as the perfect completer piece to any outfit. We’ve styled this jacket, in a non-traditional color of pink. Don’t be dismayed, it feels modern and far from the Pink Ladies in Grease. Pink not your thing? This bomber comes in a variety of neutrals and (hint, hint) it’s on sale right now.
