Maintaining Peace During the Holidays

“Nothing is more expensive than your peace. Protect it at all costs.”

It was a Sunday not unlike most Sundays. Worship had gone on for an hour and we had transitioned into hearing the speaker for the morning. This phrase I had heard countless times before, but this time it strong somewhere deep within me. It was a ping that caused a pause and thoughtful deliberation within.

Today we’re giving away to one lucky reader our favorite sweater coat. We love this coat so much we own it in two colors and wear it at least twice a week throughout the fall and winter seasons. It’s one of our favorite pieces of our capsule wardrobe and we couldn’t love it more. Why is it so great, you ask? With the cut and texture, it’s polished, great layering and finishing piece, while simultaneously feeling like pajamas. It’s what maxi dresses are in the summer to the winter months. Whether layered with a little black dress at a dinner party or placed with a white tee and legging running errands, it’s the piece that’s on constant repeat in our closet.

Confession: during the fall and winter nights I love comfort food. It seems that salads and smoothies no longer fit the bill. I need something a bit more substantive. Recently I had a small gathering and dinner party of choice. With a few guests with food allergies, we opted to make a meal where the courses were both gluten-free and dairy-free. This meal was hearty and delicious. Filling the bill for the perfect weeknight dinner of comfort food. For the polenta, instead of using parmesan, we used a blend of nutritional yeast, cashews, and garlic powder. Serving breaded chicken thighs with a golden gravy and sauce on the bed of polenta, topped with ground salt and pepper, and fresh herbs.

Gluten-Free Everything Muffins

There’s something about gluten-free baking. While the offerings have come a long way, it’s challenge to get a cake or muffin that isn’t overly dense. This muffin combines great sweet and savory pairings, and is a combination of flavors found in an everything bagel with the texture of a muffin or cornbread. I love serving this at a brunch, bringing balance to sweet coffee and fruit.
