Red Smoothie Bowls

The summer days in Redding have reached their climax. It is most indeed the dog days of summer with temperatures in the 100s by 9 AM. Usually to keep cool throughout the day I’ll go into the kitchen and make a quick smoothie. However, after a few hours I’m typically hungry again and am scrounging around for some source of protein. The solution? Make a smoothie bowl. With a solid smoothie recipe and some additional toppings, this breakfast hits the spot and keeps you cool while doing it.

Red Smoothie Bowl

Ingredients
yield: 1 serving

  • 1/3 C frozen berries
  • 2 T flaxseed
  • 1/4 C organic vanilla yogurt
  • 1/4 C almond milk

Toppings

  • Granola
  • Chia Seeds
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries

Directions:

In a blender, blend frozen berries, flaxseed, yogurt, and almond milk. You want your smoothie to be a slightly thicker consistency than normal. Add additional ice to get the perfect texture. Pour into a bowl and add your favorite toppings. Feel free to get adventurous with items like coconut flakes, nuts, and fresh fruit. Grab a spoon and enjoy!
