Photo Diary: Los Angeles

There’s something about Los Angeles. Everytime I go there, I feel more and more at home. Maybe it’s missing living in a larger city or an urban environment, but more than anything I have come to love the scenery, the beach, and the people. Last month’s trip to L.A. was one for the history books, but today I thought I would share parts of L.A. I discovered and captured throughout the week. (Another reflective post on this trip can be found here.) From amazing food to the ambient noise of the city streets, I loved challenging myself by using only my iPhone throughout the week.

Everytime I head back to L.A. the beach calls my name. One evening of the trip we headed to the beach and spent some time at Santa Monica pier. As the sunset over the Pacific and the San Bernadino mountains, I am reminded why I loved this place so much.

When I spot overgrown succulents and aloe vera plants I get super excited. Needless to say, this was a day when the lighting was perfect and I couldn’t help but take a few pictures.

When I head to the beach, I always make sure I have a few essentials. Some of my favorites? A great woven hat and leather sandals from Everlane.
On this particular day, the water was incredibly cold, but I still had to dip my toes in. As the water rushed in, I typically bolt back bracing myself for the cold water and surge of the tide.

You know the times when you head into a restaurant and it all makes sense. Joan’s on Third was one of those places. A local SoCal chain, their food, atmosphere, and design were on point. (Confession: One of the things I miss most about urban areas is the value for culture and design. If a cafe in my town adopted an aesthetic similar to Joan’s, they’d be unstoppable. Make great food and an atmosphere that is cohesive and you’ve got me. Until then I’ll head back to L.A.) Other great eats while there were Copa Vida coffee and Green Street Tavern in Pasadena.

After this trip, I’m thinking another adventure down to SoCal is a must for the summer. Until then L.A.!
