Meet My Zoodler: A Product Review

Zoodles, zoodles, everywhere. After seeing recipes with zoodles everywhere in January, I decided to try making them. I loved the idea of replacing one of my favorite things, pasta, with vegetables. I knew this would help, as I learned about clean eating and would increase my vegetable intake. Not owning a vegetable spiralizer, I wanted to research the various options out on the market before I made my final purchase.

Here were some of criteria when I came to finding my zoodler:
I knew that I wanted something affordable (less than $20), light-weight, and small in space. In our rental house, cabinet and counter space is at a premium, so I knew buying another small kitchen appliance was out of the question. In some areas, I could care less about brands, but when it comes to anything with food I’m kind of a snob. I know the brands I like and trust, and well, I’m a foodie, so it comes with the territory. Because of this I wanted a reputable brand and one I knew that would last a while. I loved all the Microplane products I had purchased previously. They are a kitchen classic and one I knew I could trust. Other items on the market were bulky, seemed to be not as durable, and weren’t the quality I desired.

My purchase:
I opted to go with the Microplane vegetable spiralizer. (you can purchase one here)

My experience:
I was hesitant when I got the product. Knowing that it wasn’t as large as some of the other products on the market, I was concerned that it would be overly labor intensive as I made the zoodles. This vegetable spiralizer has two sizes, allowing for a variety of vegetables to be used. Some of the things I love about Microplane products, are the high quality and durability of the blades. I had purchased a zester in the past from them and was equally impressed with the quality of this spiralizer. When making the zoodles, you place your zucchini in the spiralizer and twist. Out one end of the spiralizer comes the core of your vegetables, while out on the side comes your zoodles. This product was easy to use and met all of my criteria. When cooking zoodles make sure to cook them quickly over high heat (almost a stir fry), while keeping the flavor profiles simple. I tested a few recipes before I found one that worked. I wanted the ingredients I used to complement the flavor of the zucchini, rather than competing with it.

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing my skinny chicken picatta with garlic zoodles. See you then!
