Juice: 3 Ways

For a while, I have been skeptical of the juicing trend. I have friends here who swear by it, but it seems like a lot of wasted food and there were better uses of my grocery budget. However, after having a fresh juice at the farmer’s market, I was sold. When I’ve attempted eating green smoothies, I found them to be a bit too bulky. With juicing, I’ve found that they are full of nutrients, but are the light, post-workout snack I desire. I spend a bit of time and make up my juices for the full week and seal them in air-tight containers.

Keep on reading for recipes for the tropical dream, the green giant, and the spicy carrot juices!

The Spicy Carrot:

    • 2 carrots
    • 2 slices fresh ginger
    • 3 granny smith apples
    • 4 stalks celery

The Tropical Dream:

    • 3 peaches
    • 2 spears of pineapple
    • 3 oranges

The Green Giant:

    • 1/2 C spinach
    • 1 english hot house cucumber
    • 3 stalks of celery
    • 2 lemons
    • 3 green apples

Tips and tricks:

Chop up fruit and veggies to the size of the extraction shaft. I always juice my most water-filled items first and then follow up with more concentrated items. If you are finding that your juicer isn’t extracting as much liquid as you like, you can always run the pulp through the juicer a second time. I use a juicerman juicer. You can find a similar model here.

When making a vegetable concentrated juice you can save the pulp and use it as the base for veggie crackers or veggie burgers to reduce waste.

I also tend to make juice when I need to use up fresh produce. It’s a great way to use up items quickly. If you’re looking to brighten juice flavors up add the juice of a lemon. If you’re looking to add a bit of mild sweetness add the juice of a green apple.

It has been so fun to play around with different flavor profiles in the juice.

What are some of your favorite juicing combinations?
