It’s Just Water

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself in the place of comparison. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about traveling from place to place, that reminds me of the places I am in life, the places I long to be, and how often the journey between the two seems to be longest road not yet traveled.

There’s something about comparison. It robs you of joy and will continue to leave you longing for more. Over the past weeks, I found myself reminded of a simple thought, “It’s just water.” Not only in the places I’m going but in the people I’m meeting, the places I’m going, and the stories I’m finding. Every human being I encounter too, is just water. Around 65% percent water to be exact. We are all bone of bones, flesh of flesh, and will return back to dust.

This weekend as I head to LA and Venice Beach, I will remind myself that the people meet there, are too, just water. That while there are differences between all of us, the way we appear, and present ourselves to the world, at the end of the day we can all identify with each other in our humanity, the need to be loved, and to find belonging among our fellow man. From the celebrities and rich on Rodeo Drive, to the rollerbladers on the boardwalk, to the full-sleeved tatted barista, it’s just water.
