Finding My Words

“Find your words.” A phrase I commonly tell my niece when she is upset, or say to other small children to help them articulate what it is they are feeling, sensing, and why it is they are sad. However, as a creative this phrase is beginning to have new meeting.

Last night I spent the evening on the couch going through an e-course to improve this space, mainly my writing style. Over the past few months I’ve noticed buzzwords in the blogging industry- ideas of beauty, authenticity, and vulnerability. While these are true to myself, just as it is to others, I long for my words to describe something of me and connect with you, the reader. No longer symbols of black type on a white page, these words should have life. Where’s the moment where these penned words are true and real to myself, where they adequately describe my thoughts and feelings, and where are the moments where it just fades into the abyss of white noise among other creatives?

Today I’m learning to find my words. Words that are unique to my values, my creativity, and my life. What about you? As a creative, mom, wife, friend, how are you using your words? Are you recycling someone else’s thoughts and content in hopes of making it your own? Are the words you’re using to describe yourself, your brand, or your business inspiring to others? What are your words?

On this Wednesday, may you find your words.
