Fall Fashion: Shades of Gray

With the arrival of cooler temperatures and leaning toward more of a capsule wardrobe, I find that with the autumn and winter months, I always tend to lean more toward gray. Recently I discovered this when I pulled out a box in my closet prior to moving. It was full of gray sweaters. Different styles and shapes, but nonetheless gray. It has become a staple in my wardrobe along with blacks, denims, and a splash of oxblood. It always amazes me the ways this color can be used, layered, and draped for a variety of looks.

Today’s fashion post is inspired by shades of gray. Keep reading after the jump!

Dress: Others Follow, Slip, Necklace: Beautiful Stories, Earrings, Bracelet: Ursula by UAG

Let’s talk dresses. With gray, I love playing with texture and cut. These dresses provide visual interest in both categories. The first dress plays with drape and is made of a beautiful soft modal fabric. The front has a beautiful deep-v cowl neckline. To fill in the negative space, I paired it with a round minimal copper metal necklace. This is a statement piece and one that turns heads when you walk into the room.

The second dress is perfect for the office. WIth a nubby tweed texture, this sheath has visual interest and hugs curves in all the right places. Paired with a lace edged slip, the dress feels less ordinary and transitions from day to night easily.

With tops, I love playing with accessories and layers. Whether it’s layering with coats or with jewelry, it’s fun to play with weights, scale and pattern. Now that it’s rainy season here, I’m excited to break out my fall sweaters and add a few more layers to my looks. These tops hit the right note of super soft fabrics and draping. The back on the tank is incredible. Perfect for highlighting shoulder blades and those summer workouts.

Did I mention that I love sweaters? It’s no secret that I love casual style. This skirted sweater is one that makes a weekly appearance. Taking a basic (with an oversized split cut) and adding a jersey tee skirt to the bottom, makes it the perfect piece for the weekends, days in class, and is so comfortable. Now to find a cup of tea, a blanket, and a good book to read.

What are some of your favorite ways to wear gray? Any new pieces you’ve added to your wardrobe?
