Explore More: Castle Lake

Nestled among the mountains and pine trees of Northern California, Castle Lake is a secret spot that is well worth an afternoon of exploring. A small lake that is filled from glacial runoff, the water is clear, cool, and varies shades of deep, sapphire blue. Perfect for paddleboarding and kayaking this small lake doesn’t permit motorized craft, making it peaceful and placid for long hours of paddling. With launch spots around the lake and a hiking trail around the perimeter of the lake, I loved taking in the different vantage points.

Surrounded by views of Mt Shasta, Castle Crag, and majestic pine trees, I was reminded of how small I truly am, in the best of ways. It was here that I began to reflect on new seasons, building of new community, and the greatness and vastness of creation.

It is in these moments that I am learning about new facets of emotional intimacy, trust, and peace. As I looked over a stunning placid lake I was reminded that my heart could be at rest yet again. I know this spot will become a favorite for adventures and a quiet place to reflect.

If you’re headed to Northern California this is one of those hidden gems that is worth checking out. Located past the Dunsmuir exit on Interstate 5, it is around a 90 minute drive from Redding.
