Everyday Beauty: The Table

With Halloween coming to a close and ushering in the beginning of November, the holiday season is upon us in all of its fullness. When every holiday season rolls around, I try to find some simple ways to dress my table for the season. When building the table, I keep a few things in mind. For the holidays, I focus on texture, pattern, and shine. Using a variety of fabrics, levels, and plants, the table is where most of our holidays are gather with nights of conversation, friends stopping by for cocktails, or celebrating by cutting a massive turkey. Today I thought I would share some of my favorite basics and flair perfect for the holiday season.

White china.

I absolutely love white china. Invest in a good set and you can dress it up or keep it casual. Paired with linen and string lights it’s perfect for a dinner with friends out on the deck. Paired with the same linen, pine sprigs and copper chargers and it’s ready for any holiday feast you might have.

White china shallow bowls.

Paired with your white china, there’s something about comfort food and hearty stews that’s served in bowls. Whether a casual weeknight dinner of soup or stew or a fancy butternut squash soup with red pepper coulis as a starter on Thanksgiving day, these bowls are perfectly paired with your white china and will do plenty of work.

Gold brushed flatware.

This is a great moment to embrace mixed metals and a bit of shine for the holidays. I’ve been loving the recent moments of gold, copper, and antiqued metals that are gracing tablescapes. Treat yourself to this beautiful gold brushed flatware, perfect for all of your holiday meals.

Wood and marble serving board.

In our house, we find we can never have enough serving boards. I love this one with it’s beautiful colorblocking of wood and marble. Whether you’re serving cupcakes, crostini, or a cheese tray, this board is beautiful and has a rightful place at any table.

A touch of linen.

Every table needs a bit of linen to dress it up. The holidays are no different. I always choose a solid linen napkin and a linen runner to anchor my tables. Often I leave my wood surfaces exposed for contrast and this allows for an upscale, elegant, and casual vibe that I love.

Colored napkin.

This year, I’m playing with a darker and more moody palette with pops of shine and pine for meals throughout the holiday season. For thanksgiving, these deep eggplant napkins are calling my name. A beautiful purple, they’ll meet many autumn dinner parties and add a touch of color.

Copper chargers.

Playing with mixed metals, these copper chargers are going to be a change of pace, replacing my typical standard of gold ones. They feel like they’re antiqued and have been loved for a while, making them perfect for our home, where every piece feels as if it has a story.

Marble serving board.

I love this serving board. It’s large enough to handle your holiday baking and can be cleaned off to serve all of your favorite goodies. I also think it would be the perfect piece to anchor a bar set up for an evening. An extra bonus? It’s a great surface and backdrop for food photography!

Wooden round.

I love these and have quite the collection in my house. Playing with the juxtaposition of rustic and classic, raw edges and smooth china, is one of my favorites throughout the year. This is a great piece to serve anything on and is an additional texture to play with.

Copper candlestick holders.

At every holiday table, it should be glistening with candlelight. I love the modern nature of these copper candlesticks and think they would pair wonderfully with the rest of the tablescape I have going. They pick up the copper in the chargers, but still feel lightweight with the wire structure of the holder itself.

Black linen tablecloth.

For my holiday feasts, the table will be dressed up a bit more with this tablecloth. Black was an unexpected choice, but one I’m loving and am excited to play with. Look at it as the little black dress of tablecloths and find the endless possibilities.

What are some of your favorite ways to dress the table for the holidays?
