Spring Silk with Grana

As a kid, I remember my mom’s silk blouse. It was the essence of femininity and the fancy piece she afforded herself in an otherwise simple wardrobe. With flowy sleeves and pearlized buttons, she only wore it for the most special of occasions. Whether it was date nights or weddings, this piece made it’s appearance when mom needed a break from being mom and wanted to express beauty unlike any other. As I aged, I learned that silk processing has come a long way from the blouse that once lived in my mom’s closet. A perfect basic for ripped skinnies, a flowy tank for date nights, or a summer dress paired with a simple sandal. Silk has stayed premium and luxurious, while more accessible to the public. Today we’re teaming up with our friends at Grana as we style our favorite silk dress for the spring.

When it comes to summer we love to keep looks simple, classic, and put together. This piece does it well with well thought out editorial basics. With the touches of gold in our favorite minimal gold jewelry, a lace up sandal, and nude lip, this look is perfect for summer and can be elevated for the office or a bit more laid back for a bonfire by the lake. (Around here, our day can span both pretty easily.)

Soak and Swim: 2017 Swim Picks

Summer is almost upon us. This Sunday NorCal will hit triple digits. You will find me at the lake or by the pool. For most of us, we live in our swimsuits when it comes to summertime and while I used to think one pieces were the norm; however, when it comes to life in NorCal it’s hot, hot, hot. Two pieces have become a necessity to prevent heat stroke. (That’s all too real when kayaking on the lake under midday sun.) I’ve moved away from sets and have added variety to my collection by choosing different tops. It’s a great way to add a fresh piece and look without spending loads of money.

Last year I purchased these bottoms from Albion Fit and absolutely love them. With being high waisted and full coverage, there’s a lot more grace whether houseboating on the lake, hiking up waterfalls, or hoping in and out of a kayak. When it comes to swimwear, I’m a firm believer that things should stay put. Because I love these bottoms so much, I’ve paired three tops that will go with this basic.

Our Summer Essentials for Her

With May in full force, we’re starting to have weather reach the triple digits. Needless to say it’s hot, really hot. This weather will last through September. I’m always on the lookout for breezy and light pieces to refresh my summer wardrobe. Over the past few years, I’ve decided to traded in fast fashion for investment pieces that are higher quality in nature. It’s a less is more approach.  We can’t tell you how excited we are to find brands that are using a transparent and ethically sourced approach. These pieces are stunningly beautiful, have affordable price points, and will be the perfect addition to your summer capsule wardrobe.

lets go grana

Let’s Go with Grana

As the temperatures have increased and the rain has finally subsided, we took the weekend to go on a few adventures. When it comes to adventures, it is something we have neglected in the rhythm of our life, but something our heart desperately needs. Rather than the big trip (yes Australia we really miss you already) or a road trip, we headed to the local lake to do a few hikes. We headed to Brandy Creek falls. With our recent winter and spring rains, this hike was amazing and far more exciting than in years past.

There are some basic essentials we have for every hike. Here’s a peek inside our bag.

We committed to a 3 mile hike along the creek and riverbed. When it comes to hiking and local adventures, I love to find pieces that work with my life and look amazing. When Grana announced the release of their Move activewear line, I was ecstatic. Like all Grana products, they are ethically sourced fabrics and transparent in their making process. To mix things up, I went with the legging and racerfront crop top in this spring’s on trend color Port. Upon arrival they were paired with a bag to place any dirty items from the gym. Since then, these pieces have stayed pristine in the context of a gym, but they are meant to be used right? We hit the trail and got moving. To stay a bit warmer, I layered a basic gray tank on top and completed the look with our favorite pair of Nike’s.

Later this week, we’re headed to a few more challenging hikes and getting our kayak out on the lake.

Make sure to head to Grana and receive an exclusive 10% off your first order. (A little gift from me to you, my dear readers.)

What are some of your favorite pieces to wear when going adventuring? Anything you swear by?

What’s In My Bag: Melbourne, Australia

The day has come! As we speak I’m flying over the Pacific Ocean to travel to Australia. While it will be a quick trip, around 7 days to be exact, I can’t wait to experience a distant land that I have already come to love. It’s been a battle to get on the plane, but one where the promise of adventure has been worth all the hustle.

When it comes to being a freelancer, I always get asked what I pack for my mobile office. I try to keep things streamlined with only the essentials. As I choose bags, I pick quality and carry on items that look stylish, but not super tech savvy. When traveling internationally, it’s always best to choose bags that don’t look like they house cameras and laptop gear. It makes hopping on trains, walking from place to place, and airports, less of a target. Anyways, these bags have gone with me to Eastern Europe, all over the states, and are now traveling to Australia.
