Gift Guide Ethical Fashionista

Gift Guide for the Ethical Fashionista

If you’ve noticed our Instagram stories from Friday, we’re big fans of supporting brands that are ethical and care for people who make their clothes in factories around the world. Because people in factories matter just as much as the designers that are releasing the looks and sending them down the runways. Because of this, we opt for higher quality basics, embracing a minimal wardrobe over fast fashion. When it comes to gifting, this year choose to buy from brands that are making ethical decisions and changing the game in the fashion industry. We love these pieces and they’re a phenomenal addition to any fashionista’s wardrobe.

Cashmere joggers: Gift luxury with these cashmere sweats. Last year we were able to give a similar pair to a lucky reader and this year we hope you’ll treat yourself or get some for a babe on your list. Think these are only for inside the house? Look at this previous post for 3 Ways to rock your joggers.

A classic silk button down: A button down is timeless. In a stunning black and white stripe and luxurious silk, add parisian flare to your favorite fashionista’s wardrobe.

Olive bomber jacket: The bomber jacket has been on-trend for a few seasons and is here to stay. We love it in an olive to add a bit of color to the otherwise black ensemble.

A cozy white cable knit: Perfect for log cabins, fires, and cozy nights in. We love this cable knit in a classic winter white. It’s perfect throughout the winter months and for adventuring outside.

Leather weekender: Made out of supple cognac leather, this bag will be a classic, perfect for all of your weekend getaways. (We’re taking ours to Napa in a few weeks.)

Foldover crossbody: Sleek and elegant, this bag is stunning. With a detachable strap, keep all of the basics close and transition looks from office to a girl’s night out.

White leather street shoe: We love these simple white leather shoes and think they’re perfect for the current athleisure trend. If a pair of black Nike’s are your norm, elevate your look with these shoes.

Boss boot: Elegant, stunning, effortless. These are all words I would use to describe this shoe. With the smart contrast between heel and tan suede these boots are made for walking and owning the room.

Denim: Ethical denim at $68 a pair? Everlane recently changed the game with their denim. We love them for it. (These are on our Christmas list as well.)

Know of any fashion companies that are changing the game? (We’re always on the hunt for great, ethically sourced products.)

1. ETHIOPIAN COFFEE from Integrity Coffee Roasting: I met Blake and Jamie last year and they’re amazing people. Creatives at heart and from my hometown, this couple are the real deal in authenticity and kindness. When you interact with them you truly get the best. This fall they launched their coffee subscription and have done a phenomenal job infiltrating the roasted coffee market. Ditch a Misto subscription and order from these folks.

2. Nani Earrings from Hadley Frances: I met Hadley at a holiday craft fair over four years ago. From there we did blogging collaborations and you can find me wearing at least one of her pieces everyday. Her pieces are a great investment in minimal gold pieces to layer for special occasions or solo for everyday wear.

3. Leather Stamped Keychain from Twin Sparrow Co.:  Christine, the Founder of the Twin Sparrow Co, is a vibrant and beautiful soul. We love her keychains and have a favorite tradition. Every year we ask for a word and purchase this word on a fresh leather keychain. This is a thoughtful gift

4. Mug from Feast Coffee: Whether you’re buying coffee or this stunning mug from Feast, every product you purchase is filled with love and care. This mug mirrors the hygge style with a minimalist two-tone stoneware and is the perfect addition for any coffee lover.

5. Brown Oiled Tote from Knollwood Leather: When it comes to leather goods, Knollwood offers stunning and beautiful pieces. I’m always up for a new leather tote and have been carrying mine everyday for two years. Whatever item you find in this collection, you’ll be surprised by the quality and craftsmanship.

6. Happy Candle from The Good Stink: Love candles, but worried about what they’re releasing into the air? This candle company only uses the purest wax and essential oils, allowing you to breathe easy.

7. Art Print by Zea Ink: The perfect art print, as a reminder there’s nothing worth your peace.

8. The Whole Doughnut E-Book by Kezia Neusch: A while ago, I was able to do recipe testing for this e-book. The best part? This book is excellent through and through. With the ability to transform doughnuts into baked gluten-free, refined sugar free delights, you’ll never look at a doughnut the same way again. (We promise you’ll want to make them for Christmas brunch.)

9. Christmas EP by Brian and Katie Torwalt: It’s only appropriate that we include a moment of Christmas. Brian and Katie bring smooth and classic tones to these timeless favorites, perfect for decorating the tree, decorating cookies, or wrapping gifts.

10. Cake Stationery by Buttrcrm: I first met Erica when owning a co-working space downtown. She has endless creative energy and ability to style things in a stunning way. She has recently released this adorable stationary and it makes me want to eat cake!

11. Cupcakes by Buttrcrm: It only felt appropriate to share a favorite sweet treat. Erica’s cupcakes are filled with fair-trade, organic, and available gluten-free ingredients. She uses only the best. Whether you’re looking for a chocolate guinness cake or lavender buttercream, there’s the perfect foodie pairings and adventurous flavors.

12. “It’s Going This Way” Original Canvas by Natalie Shaw: I first met Natalie at a show last May. Her abstract work is stunning and will be some of the first canvases I will add to my art collection. With use of texture, movement, and line, she pairs mixed media in a fresh and timeless way

2017 Father's Day Gift Guide

Father’s Day Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again and I can’t tell you how often I struggle to buy something my dad will love for Father’s Day. There’s something about buying for the guys in your life that can always make things a bit challenging. Most years my dad is more than happy with a gift card to a favorite steakhouse or outdoors store. However, for me that feels like handing over a bit of cash. Thoughtless and super impersonal. For this year’s gift guide I decided to come up with a gift guide that can be paired with phenomenal experiences, cloaked with intention.

For the sake of honor.

When it comes to dads and knowing what they love, this gift idea is one of my favorites. Every dad longs to hear from their child the legacy they’ve left, the ways they’ve shown love, and the lessons they’ve learned. One year I was strapped for money. I had a few free prints from an online company and purchased a moleskine. Inspired by the work of Stefan Sagmeister, I went page by page, filling the book with lessons he had taught me throughout my life. Each page had a simple sentence and a black and white square print to go with it. My dad absolutely loved it. Since then photo books have come a long way, and we love Artifact Uprising. They have a quick turnaround time and stunning modern design perfect for any need you may have.

Share an experience.

There’s something about quality time with the one you love. In our family we will remain split between the West Coast and the South for a little while longer. I love the idea of pairing a gift item with tickets to an experience to share. This could mean the tennis racket he’s always been wanting and membership to the local tennis club. It could mean a fishing reel and meeting him at a cabin near the lake for a weekend in the summer. Whatever it is that your dad loves, find a few ways to give him a phenomenal gift based around something he loves.

Amp up your dad’s wardrobe.

As your dad ages, it’s always a good idea to help dad out in the fashion department. This year, I was at home near the holiday helping my dad pack for a trip. As we went through his closet we discovered his wardrobe had some serious holes in it for the summer season. After a quick chat I knew what he needed and was excited to update his look.

Embrace Dad’s D.I.Y Nature.

That looming project Dad’s needed help on? Go on ahead and offer your services. Or if you find yourself handy, build something he would love. We love the idea of a fire pit in the backyard or a stunning farmhouse table for family gatherings during the summer months.

What are you getting dad for Father’s Day?

Luggage has been getting an overhaul with recent products and we’re incredibly thankful. This carrier goes luxe with the smart olive color, high lacquer, and a few USB ports on the top to keep all of your devices charged. (After walking through the Las Vegas airport countless times, I can’t tell you how thankful I am for this feature.

I love a smart shoe that can be dressed up or down. This shoe is no exception. With aeration in the front it breathes, and adds a bit of style with the slight contrast of the gray and white.

In summer time and high heat, it’s best to think in light layers. This chambray shirt is composed of a linen blend, keeping things tight. Pair with your favorite pair of chinos and leather sandals for a summer night out. Headed to the office, grab your favorite pair of shoes and dark denim, you’re good to go.

After a long day at the lake or beach, we’re ready for a cozy layer to spend by the evening’s bonfire. In a simple neutral, this pullover is great and has a bit of edge with the shoulder pocket.

These boardshorts are great for hiking, kayaking, or surfing. Whether sand, surf, and lakes, are your thing, they do the work.

A lightweight tee in a fresh color.

We can’t tell you how much we love our Warby Parkers. With an at-home try on feature you can try the frames to your face, playing with 5 frame options prior to ordering. We think this is a brilliant concept and love the colored mirror lenses they’ve been rolling out this summer.

When looking a bag for gear, look no further than Peak Designs. This is a bag we swear by, great for adventures, and pro photographers alike. With room for 3 lenses, a camera body, and laptop, it does the work you need. Take out the dividers and you have a fantastic interior for any daytrip.

Finish off your day of sun-filled adventures and relax with a libation from this copper flask. It’s beautiful and perfect for whatever your drink of choice might be.
