Casual Friday Vol. 3

Happy Friday everyone!

This week has been one with lots of growth, energy, and excitement. It has meant looking inward, asking some hard questions, and moving forward in both life and in my business. Asking tough questions is good, has brought clarity, and peace of mind to what has felt like a chaotic season. (I’ll be sharing more about that in some upcoming posts, so stay tuned.) In today’s volume of Casual Friday, I take you a bit behind the scenes of life around here lately and share a few links I’ve been loving lately.

Self-care is something I’ve been focusing on a lot lately. With a hectic and 14 hour days, I’m learning to take breaks throughout, make sure I workout, and have moments of quiet in the morning. It’s a necessity and something that keeps me healthy, while working hard and playing hard. The walking trails near my house are still my absolute favorite to get a quick jog or walk in. Taking in the view of the surrounding mountains, reminds me that my heart is still full of adventure and freedom, even if my schedule looks far from it.

Lately, I’ve been playing with combinations of figs, balsamic vinegars, and veggies. The onset of fall produce has made recipe tasting more exciting. Lots of posts to shoot this weekend. If you live locally, shoot me a message as I’ll definitely need some taste testers. Fig buttercream on a cupcake made by some friends? Yes please.

A fall trend that is always welcome is the return of plaid. A few weeks ago I headed to the Target clearance section and picked up these guys for the season. Three pieces under $15, I was a super happy girl. The buffalo check in black and white are the perfect pieces to mix up my otherwise basic wardrobe and add a bit more pattern. (And yes, I have consumed two pumpkin spice lattes in the past two days, from local coffee shops with organic ingredients. No shame.) I’ve been looking for the perfect piece to wear to a friends wedding in the woods at the foot of Mt. Shasta next month. Any thoughts on pieces I should wear? I was thinking a more laid back and cozy vibe, but am completely unsure about the weather. If you’ve seen any great pieces, let me know.

This week I’ve been rocking the top knot quite a bit. I’m contemplating the latest haircut decision and have been putting it off. Until then, up it goes!

Here are a few links I’ve been loving on the Internet lately

Remember the deep questions I’ve been asking lately? A lot of them have been prompted by conversations with friends, having focus, and this article.

Want to have friends over but think things need to be perfect? Try hosting a crappy dinner party. You’ll be amazed at the freedom and liberation found in the concept. Now go shoot a few texts and invite people over.

Every few seasons, there’s a show that comes along that you resonate with. (No it’s not Stranger Things.) This week I sat down with a roommate and we watched This Is Us. For those of you who loved The Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, you’ll like this one as well. We laughed and cried in the same episode and are excited to have a weekly date to watch the show.
